Easy way to start adding healthy home-cooked meals in your week

We all have all been there, a really busy week between taking kids to school, work and after school activities, it can be really easy to get off-track and let go of some healthy habits. I was out for lunch with a friend of mine the other day and she was saying how she wanted to get back into being healthy again so I thought I would share the ideas I shared with her with you!

Step 1: Get a cook book you love. Yes, I mean an actual book! In this digital age it can be easier to look at an app or find a website but I find a fun way to get your family involved in eating healthy is to get a cookbook together and work through it.

Step 2: Commit to one day of the week that you can all eat together as a family. It is important that all families take the time to eat together at a table to stay connected on how their lives are going. Mark it on the family calendar!

Step 3: Before you do your shopping for the week go through the cook book and pick one new recipe to try.

Step 4: Cook and eat it

Step 5: As a family discuss how you liked it or would change it and make notes in the cookbook. Have a vote, was this mean a keeper or not?

This is a really easy way to not only connect with your family and have an excuse to slow things down when life is really busy but it also gives you a chance to introduce new cooking ideas and diet changes to your family with the least resistance. Make sure to mark the keepers in your cookbook so that when you are doing your weekly meal planning it is easy to identify the keepers in the book. Remember the more you make them the easier it is so track down those healthy recipes you love and keep them.
